AREA INFORMATIONOver 112,000 people reside in Indian River County, which includes the 5 incorporated towns of Vero Beach, Indian River Shores, Orchid, Sebastian and Fellsmere. Vero Beach is the largest municipality and the county seat for Indian River County with approximately 17,500 residents. Vero Beach was rated "Best Small Town in Florida and 12th in the Nation" and named on of "The 100 Best Art Towns in America" It is also recognized as "The Citrus Capital of the World" with its domestic market and worldwide export of delicious Indian River citrus. It is also the smallest city to have a baseball team, as the Spring Training Site to the L.A. Dodgers and home to the Vero Beach Dodgers. Known as the "Gateway to the Tropics," Vero Beach residents and visitors enjoy the casual elegance, lush tropical climate, high quality of life, and abundance of recreational activities that are available. Indian River County is located at the northern border of Florida's warmest thermal belt. Yearly rainfall in 2000 was 47 inches. September is usually known as the rainy month, with June, October and August following next in order. The period of least rainfall usually occurs from November to April. The average year round temperature is 82°, summer 89°, winter 74.3°.
